Zahir shah faced a life-or-death decision: Let his entire family starve, or sell his children.
Zahir shah from the province of Paktia Sarozi district, who has been living with his family for the past year in a Bagrami district inside the Shahrak manjay, There are 8 members in the family, including 5 men and 3 women. We had to move from paktia to this Bagrami district in Kabul Province.
Zahir Shah said that he felt “broken” with guilt, shame, and worry over giving away his children, but ultimately he believed that he had no choice but to go through with the sale.
The father said to FCDO "I have to sell to keep other family members alive."
"The prices are high. Flour is expensive, cooking oil is expensive, everything is expensive,"
Zahir Shah said. "All day they are asking me to give them meal. We don't have anything, and we don't have money to buy it for them."
Until we received assistance from FCDO, “We couldn’t eat meal regularly in the past. Sometimes I bring spoilage vegetables from bazaar to feed my children. I have to stand to find food so that I and my family will not starve.” Zahir Shah expresses.
When FCDO survey the households in Bagrami district the family was selected as the most vulnerable family and supported basic needs such as Flour, cooking oil, nutrition foods, yellow split peas, and salt for six consecutive months.
Zahir Shah, qualified to receive food staples from the World Food Programme (WFP) to cover critical food needs.
Zahir Shah said: “Most of what we eat now comes from the assistance. It’s very critical for us now.” He adds, Due to the 6-month continuous basic food support from FCDO in 2023, our family was comfortable and stable without any worries. "We're still waiting for help and want to FCDO extended our food card."
The World Food Programme (WFP) is always fighting against poverty to help vulnerable families in the Kabul, one of the kabul districts in Paghman district where the World Food Programme is in progress and is currently underway and distributes assistances packages to 8,950 vulnerable families in Paghman district every month. Wali Mohammad , originally from Tagab district of Kapisa province , lives in the refugee town of Qala-e-Abdul Ali in Kabul during the past and civil war and has been displaced from his home country . Wali Mohammad 's entire family is seven , four men and three women . Wali Mohammad has no job and his children are under the age of 15, and his children cannot work. When his health is good, he paints people’s shoes in the city, which makes about 80 to 100 afghanis a day, but Wali Mohammad is not self-sufficient. He goes to work when his mental health is good and when he don’t feel well, he is at home. Kamina , 45, the wife of Wali Mohammad , describes her life in a state of tears and tears : " If I tell you my story , this is the winter if the world food program did not provide food assistance to us , so my sick husband and these small children were starving to death when friends community development organization (FCDO) surveyor came to our house and saw the situation , so he promised us a food card that made me and my daughters fed up with food cards . Believe in God that my children would sleep a few nights without food. I would have brought them these things from the bazaar, the spoiled vegetables, so if i hadn't been given this card by the World Food Programme , we would have died of hunger. “I don't know where to start my problems for you, there are many problems, “said The little Tahmina , who is 11 years old . For example, there is no proper food, the father is sick, the mother is sick, the accommodation is very difficult, but god has helped us with this food card. On the other hand, if you want our lives to improve and we get rid of this misfortune, I hope that you will help us to get out of this situation. There are 57 families living in this camp, there is no opportunity to live and study. I want to make myself a doctor in the future so that my family and I can stand on our own feet and don’t need anyone. It should be remembered that the International Food Program has helped thousands of families in our beloved country, Afghanistan, and the aid process is still ongoing.
